Some Press Releases Make News But so Many Don't. Why?
A press release makes news when:   1.  It is NEWSWORTHY and has a
strong catchy headline that sums up the story in one to three lines.
2. It is high in local interest for the target audience and media;
3. It includes accurate data,solid information and  looks, reads and
sounds like news.

[To be published; a release must contain newsworthy information]

Some Reasons Why  Press Releases Struggle to Make News
1.  A weak opening and MAYBE A WEAK HEADLINE!  2. When it is sent
to the wrong media;
3.When  it is more of an advertisement  than news;
4.It is not newsworthy, the timing is wrong or it is too long (Most stories
can be told in 500 words)
You have something   interesting to say but
you don't have a copywriter on staff
or if you do  you feel it is time to freshen up what you want say about a member of staff,
product or service. It could be in a press release or your corporate profile; let's talk.

How to Write A Press Release - A Basic  Format
1 Your name, company name, address, Telephone and contact details.
2 Release Date For Immediate Release  or Embargoed: for release - time and
date...
3 The headline
4 Dateline (city, town of origin)
5 The body of the press release

The Headline: Must attract attention -
Pretend you are the editor and write the shortest possible answer to the most
important thing you have to say. This may take a little time.  Look beyond the issue
or event and remember the headline should summarize your story in one or up to
three lines.

The Body:
Arrange the information you want to include in order of importance.
Your first paragraph will summarise the most important piece of information on
your list. Try to include the 'who, what, where, when, why and how.' Then, work
your way down to the least important. As you write, always check whether the
information you are about include in terms of importance could have come
earlier or should be lower down the order. Beware of superlatives and
complementary adjectives. Recap..

Finally:
Allow margins wide enough for editing. Space or indent paragraphs.  Since a
release is not a sales letter, if you run over a page try to end the first page with a
completed  sentence or paragraph. Be sure to add 'more' at the foot.
