Make that a Big Mac with Free Wi-Fi
McDonalds is set to launch a 1200 outlet free wireless service which up to now will make the company the largest wi-fi provider in the UK.
McDonalds already retains BT as a telecom partner and the move comes on the heels of the company’s programme to refurbish 200 of its sites around the country. The upgraded sites represent an upmarket shift that lands the McDonald brand on the same plain with Starbucks the UK’s chic coffee bars. But CIO Ivan Brooks denies that the wi-fi move is linked to the popularity of café bars such as Starbucks.
According to Brooks, the company is confident that of attracting a positive response from its existing customer base to what he said was an important change that allows McDonald’s to retain its relevance in the market place.
Brooks estimates that users who pay to log on for an hour per week will save as much as £260 per year on premium wi-fi charges.
